Tranmere hold on to win 1-0 at Prenton Park

An unchanged Rovers 16 edged through to claim their second successive win at home this season and make it six points out of six over the bank holiday weekend.

Steven Jennings once again started, and impressed in midfield with Danny Harrison whilst Alex Bruce made his home debut, his famous father Steve, watched from the directors box.

Both sides started brightly, with Swindon creating the first chance but the cross was sent straight into John Achterberg's waiting gloves.

The best of the chances in the first half however fell to Tranmere. Iain Hume having the best of them. A back pass from the Swindon defender went wrong and Hume got to the ball first. However, his shot was finely saved down to his left by Swindon keeper Heaton. Tranmere had other chances in the first half too, Hume and Roberts putting the ball into the Cowshed. Leading scorer Chris Greenacre also had a header caught well by Heaton.

Tranmere made one change at half-time, bringing Welsh international Gareth Roberts off and replacing him with Theo Whitmore - a change that suprised many Rovers fans.

Swindon had a better Second half to their first, with Heath curling a shot wide from 25 yards out before forcing a save out of John Acterberg, who was never really troubled by the Swindon strikers.

On 59 minutes, Rovers took the lead. Chris Greenacre netting his fourth goal of the season.
Danny Harrison's shot from the edge of the area was going wide before Greenacre intercepted the shot with an acrobatic flick, diverting the ball into the top right hand corner of the net and giving the home side the advantage.

Rovers still threatened even after taking the lead - something they often failed to do in the previous campaign. Danny Harrison rocking the cross bar with a brilliant shot from 20 yards out, and then he returned to his usual self, hitting two more shots into row 25 of the Kop.

Half way through the second half, Steve Davies was introduced to the action and he saw his fantastic cross elude everybody and also lobbed over with around 15 minutes left.

Swindon threatened late on, but the Rovers center-back pairing of Ian Sharps and Mike Jackson kept Swindon out, whilst keeping both sets of fans on the edge of their seats.

Jones' man of the Match: I found it a close call between Steven Jennings and Ian Goodison for today's man of the match and I eventually give the award to the later. Goodison seems to have warmed to the left-back roll this season and had one of his best games in the position today in my opinion. Goodison made some good tackles but crucially got forward very well in the second half when Rovers lacked the influence of Gareth Roberts.
