Rovers see off Glovers

Tranmere were good value for a 1-0 victory over Oldham at Prenton Park.

The home side scored the crucial goal with the first chance of the game after 18 minutes. Lucas Akins set up Jose Baxter whose shot took a deflection off Enoch Showunmi to send the ball out of the reach of goalkeeper Alex Cisak, with Baxter credited for the goal.

Rovers looked the more assured outfit but skipper Shefki Kuqi was not far off target for Oldham with a 20-yard effort just before the break.

Tranmere almost doubled their advantage two minutes after the restart when a header by Adam McGurk from an Akins cross struck the crossbar.

Baxter volleyed wide on the hour mark and Robbie Weir brought a one-handed stop from Cisak after 66 minutes.

Oldham were struggling to create a real opportunity although an angled effort from Kuqi brought a comfortable save from Williams, before the skipper missed the target from 25 yards shortly afterwards.

A good rally towards the end also went unrewarded for Paul Dickov's side but they could have few complaints on the day.
