Sky is blue for Rovers

Tranmere Rovers won their thrid friendly out of four against what who be their toughest opponents of the pre-season, Manchester City.

The first half was dull, nothing much happened apart from Ian Sharps somehow managing a double clearence off the line and a couple of shots from Calvin Zola and Eugene Dadi.

However, the second half was much better. A new Manchester City IX player Tranmere who only replaced half their players. Man of the match, Paul Brown was one of the players who came on. He caused the Man City defense havoc, weaving in and out on the left hand side and down the center all half, causing many problems. However, his shooting boots were not attatched to his feet tonight.

Chris Greenacre also came on, and some good one touch passes and very good movement impressed many fans. Steve Wilson in goal also had a good home debut, pulling off some great saves, notably one from a Claudio Reyna free-kick.

The winner came in injury time. The ball looked to being out from a Rovers shot, but somehow, an increadibly acrobatic Chris Greeancre Bicycle kick kept the ball back into play and allowed Steve Davies to net his third goal in four friendlies this pre-season from close range.

The result however is nothing to get excited about. Manchester City had far from their strongest IX out, with none of David James, Robbie Fowler, Kiki Musampa or Antoine Sibierski playing a part in the game. But, a win is a win and Tranmere IX with no right hand side beat Manchester City.
