Rovers snatch share of spoils

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro fired a late equaliser as Tranmere left it late to salvage a point from an entertaining 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury at the Greenhous Meadow.

Shrews always looked the more dangerous side in the first half and it was no surprise when their pressure finally paid off with a breakthrough in stoppage time.

Mark Wright whipped in an inviting free-kick from the left and Marvin Morgan rose highest to power a header past Owain Fon Williams.

The Tranmere goalkeeper had earlier kept his team in it by racing off his line to block with his knees after Wright superbly brought down a raking pass from Matt Richards.

Shrewsbury had the chances to move well clear in the second half, with the excellent Fon Williams saving well from Morgan and Terry Gornell.

Tranmere carried more of a threat as they chased the game and eventually pulled level in the 88th minute when Akpa Akpro turned the ball home after Liam Palmer nodded back a cross from sub Abdulai Bell-Baggie.

But Shrewsbury still might have won it with the outstanding Fon Williams pulling off two more stunning saves from Asa Hall and Michael Hector in time added on.
