Moore: "If that goal was offside, I'll show my bum in woolies"
Despite possessing a two goal advantage at the break, Tranmere Rovers threw away the chance to top League One, as they drewe 2-2 with Huddersfield Town.

Ronnie Moore made one change to the side that drew 0-0 with Nottingham Forest at the weekend, replacing the injured Gareth Taylor with Chris Greenacre up front. Mike Jones earned a place on the subs bench.

The visitors started the brighter, as Danny Schofield had the first chance of the match in the first minute, but Gavin Ward saved Schofield's header.

However, Matt Glennon was soon to be the busier keeper, as he made two decent saves from winger Chris Shuker.

Town had another chance on nine-minutes, but former Sheffield Wednesday striker Andy Booth could only fire straight at Gavin Ward.

Kevin Ellison had a fine shot saved by Matt Glennon on ten minutes after good work from Calvin Zola, but Glennon could do nothing about Zola's header one minute later.

With John Mullin down injured in the centre-circle, Rovers carried on playing and Chris Shuker floated in a cross to the back post, where Calvin Zola wrong footed Glennon, sending his header into the centre of the goal.

Rovers had The Terriors on the back foot, as Kevin Ellison had a header saved by Glennon, after good work from Zola and McLaren, with Huddersfield barely getting the ball into the Tranmere half of the field.

After Peter Jackson had made a tactical substitution on 30 minutes, replacing Schofield with Young, to try and contain Chris Shuker, Rovers scored a second - one of the best goals you will see in League One this season.

Robbie Stockdale, John Mullin, Paul McLaren and Chris Shuker had touches of the ball, before Shuker found himself with the ball on the right. After a quick one-two with Greenacre, Shuker slipped a cross in towards the former Man City striker, who hit the shot first time into the bottom left, past the diving Glennon's right hand.

Tranmere should have had a third before the break, as Greenacre netted again. However, the linesman's flag had been raised, despite the fact that Greenacre had to turn his man before shooting. Ronnie Moore commented "If that goal was offside, I'll show my bum in woolies".

With four minutes gone in the second half, Tranmere had an injury scare, as Chris McCready was replaced by Shane Sherriff at centre-back. From then on, it was nearly all down hill.

However, firstly Rovers hit the post, through Chris Shuker, who after being set free by a ball over the top, sent the keeper the wrong way and hit the post with his curling effort.

Two minutes later, Huddersfield pulled one back, thanks to a rare error from Gavin Ward. The experienced 'keeper dropped Young's cross when in the air, and Andy Booth did the rest, netting into the empty net from five yards.

Huddersfield had now stepped up a gear, something that Rovers couldn't handle, as Booth put a header over from six yards.

The change in Huddersfield's game all seemed to be down to a change of formation and one substitute made by Peter Jackson, as Pawell Abbott replaced Tom Clarke at half-time, with Town changing to a 4-4-2 formation.

Rovers could have had a third on 65-minutes, which would surely have seeled the game. After Chris Greenacre won a tackle in midfield, the striker off-loaded the ball to John Mullin, who motored his way to the penalty area before seeing his lob just saved by Matt Glennon.

On 68-minutes, Rovers had two more chances to score, as Glennon made a double save from the acrobatic Calvin Zola, after a brilliant cross from Chris Shuker.

After Luke Beckett had replaced Andy Booth on 70 minutes, Huddersfield equalised, thanks to more defensive errors from Rovers.

The Tranmere defence failed to clear a cross, and the result was the ball finding Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who netted his seventh goal of the season past Gavin Ward on 76-minutes.

Tranmere had a couple of chances to win the game in dying minutes after the introduction of Steven Jennings, replacing John Mullin, whilst Town also had chances to clinch the three points, but many of their efforts went either very high or very wide.

The result, a 2-2 draw, is not the end of the world for Tranmere, as Port Vale managed to draw 1-1 with Nottm Forest, Husbands netting Vale's goal after 13-seconds.

This meant that had Rovers won, they would have gone one point ahead of the league leaders, however, they remain one point behind Forest, whilst Bristol City closed the gap between Tranmere and themselves to no points, having been four points before the weekend.

Jones' Man Of The Match: After a sparkling first half performance, Rovers were very average in the second half. Two men stood out for Tranmere, as Chris Shuker and Calvin Zola were brilliant on the wing and upfront. Shuker wins the award this week for his trickery and skill on the wing, as he assisted both goals, and was a constant threat all evening.
