Point gained in dull draw, Report by Tom Davies

A point was all that Rovers got this afternoon from a dull game where we should have taken all 3!

There was only one change, from the side that beat Rotherham on Bank Holiday Monday, Carl Tremarco replaced by Ian Goodison who started at left back with Gareth Roberts pushing into left midfield.

Steve Wilson could only manage a place on the bench after returning from injury, and was joined by new loan signing Steven O'Leary and power-house forward Delroy Facey, returning from injury.

Rovers were forced to attack the Kop end in the first half after Bournmouth won the toss, the first time this has happened this season, I think.

The First chance of the game came to Rovers after a foul on Sammy Aiston. The former Shrwsbury man cutting in from the Right flank before twisting and turning his way diagonally accross to the left hand side of Rovers' attack.

He was fouled on the edge of the area. McAteer took the resulting Free kick, firing it towards the near top corner but Steward in the Cherries goal did fantasically well to palm it over.

Then, minutes later, McAteer and Goodison linked tremendously well to create another chance. Macca had the ball in the penalty area before giving it to Goodison, the Jamaican then cooly back-healed the ball back to McAteer.

The former Republic of Ireland international picked out Calvin Zola who volleyed the shot high and wide.

It was all Rovers in the opening 13 minutes with Bournemouth not really having many toutches of the ball. Then they had a chance, if you would call it that.

Bournmouth picked the ball up on the half way line and Brian Stock had a shot, trying to catch Dino Semeret off his line, it didn't work as it ended up near the corner flag!

Rovers continued to push forward in search of the opening goal. The next chance fell to Danny harrison who had some how managed two goals in his last two games! Goal Machine!

Aiston doing well on the right played the ball to Greenacre on the edge of the area who in turn squared it to Harrison in the centre of the area who, unmarked, really should of scored, but instead he fired it high and wide!

From the Bournmouth goalkick, the keeper played it short to Young who was tackled by Zola on the Rovers right, Stewart made up for the mistake saving well from Zola's Cross/shot.

Harrison had another great chance minutes later! The ball was pumped forward by Ian Sharps. Niether Zola or Greenacre could win the ball. It bobbled out to Danny Harrison who screwed the shot wide when it looked easier to score!

Sam Aiston who hadn't really done anything up to this point was starting to get more involved in the game. On 27 minutes he put a super cross into the area that perfectly picked out Greenacre on the near post, but his header didn't have enough power to really test Steward in the Cherries goal.

There was then 2 chances for the Rovers defenders to score. The first game to Jackson from a McAteer freekick. The Defender out-jumped the Bournmouth Defence at the far post but the header went agonisingly wide.

Minutes later it was Sharp's turn to have a go. From a similar position to Jackson, he got a header but it hit the top of the Crossbar and bounced away to the relief of the 200 or so travelling Bournmouth fans.

Then arguably the Best chance of the game came for Rovers. Aiston won a Free kick on the right hand side, level with the penalty spot. McAteer played a low freekick to Greenacre who volleyed the ball. His shot was brilliantly saved by the Bournmouth keeper who was not expected to stop it!

Rovers were getting chance after chance but with no goals to show, whilst Bournmouth hadn't even had the ball in Semerets area!

Zola then had another chance. Semeret's clearence was comfortbly controlled by Zola who tuned but the shot was well wide. Harrison also had a chance in Injury time. Shooting from outside the area but it was straight at the Cherries goalkeeper.

The final chance of the half did however fall to Bournmouth. Hayter's Cross was headed over by Cooper in the last minute.

At the half time whistle, the crowd still awaited the first goal, which Tranmere should have claimed.

In the second Half, Rovers started the brightest again, a long ball from Francis was well taken by Zola before he turned and shot, but it was blocked by a desperates Bournmouth defender.

Bournmouth then stared to get into the game for the first time in the match with hayter having a good chance from a young cross but Zola imediatly had a chance at the other end, flashing a header narrowly wide.

Then on 55 minutes Dino Semeret came to collect a cross, but under a heavy challence from hayter, dropped the cross but luckilly for rovers, Ian Sharps was there to clear the ball into safety. It was a real let down for Semeret who had nothing to do all game!

After a half chance for Aiston, McAteer was replaced by Rankine and O'Leary and Facey came on for Harrison and Zola. Delroy did well after he came on, causing trouble in the Bournmouth defence with his pace and strengh! He put a good cross in from the right hand side that Greenacre couldn't finish.

Goodison had the last chance of the game with his header being cleared off the line from Cooke. The chance came from a corner taken by Roberts.

Many of the Rovers players appealed as they thought it had crossed the line, most of the fans in the far end of the Johnny King stand also thought that it had crossed the line but it was not to be.

Full Time : Tranmere 0-0 Bournmoth

Man of the match: Definatly without a doubt IAN SHARPS. He stopped and dealt with anythink that came to him. It is shown with Seremet not having a save to make all game and the Bournmouth 5 shots were all blocked, 4 of them by Ian Sharps. Zola also in contention with a great first half performance but he let him self down in the second, wasting good chances.
