Mullin's second TRFC goal puts the Super Whites joint top of League One with Nottm Forest
A late goal from John Mullin was enough to see Tranmere score their first goal and win for the first time over Bristol City in two seasons.

The victory put Rovers level on points with first placed Nottm Forest as Ronnie Moore continues to push for the ultimate automatic promotion spot.

Tranmere went into the game unchanged, naming the same starting XI and substitutes that comfortably defeat Leyton Orient last weekend at Prenton Park.

Bristol City meanwhile were without the three players currently in jail, Orr, Partridge and Brooker, but Jevons and Showumni passed late fitness tests and started the game.

It was Rovers who started much the brighter, with Gareth Taylor heading wide from Shane Sherriff's cross early on, before Taylor again headed over, this time from a free-kick after some good work from Goodison.

On 18-minutes, Rovers would have taken the lead but for a fantastic save by Basso. A cross found Greenacre at the near post who's header looked destined for goal until Basso palmed it away.

Rovers were defending well, with Goodison and Stockdale each making important blocks as Gavin Ward didn't have a shot to save in the first half.

On 40-minutes, Rovers had a free-kick 22-yards from goal. It was Chris Shuker who eventually took the kick but could only send the ball straight into the arms of Basso.

This proved to be the last action of the first half as the two teams went in all square and things looking as if it would end 0-0.

The start of the second half saw two Bristol City players collide in their own penalty area, resulting in two head injuries, before Phil Jevons sent a long distance shot wide.

Minutes later, Rovers had the best chance of the game so far, as from Shuker's free-kick, Goodison forced a fantastic save out of Basso with a diving header.

Shuker saw a shot blocked on 62-minutes, before Gareth Taylor sent his follow up well wide of the post, causing Basso no problems.

It was not for another 20 minutes that Rovers finally found the break through. Sherriff's long ball from the back was expertly headed down by Taylor into the path of Mullin.

Mullin hit a volley from round about the penalty spot, sending Basso the wrong was with an excellent finish that won Tranmere the three points and sent the Kop, well, mental!

It was a fantastic performance by Rovers defensively, and the midfield bossed the game second half. However, Rovers failed to find the final ball too often but they got the goal and won the points.

The result means that under Ronnie Moore, Tranmere have played four won four at Prenton Park, conceeding just one goal in the process, and have won their last four games.

Jones' Man Of The Match: Whilst Mullin, Taylor and Stockdale all had brilliant matches, it was Ian Goodison who once again excelled in defence. Nothing got passed the Jamaican international all game as he read the play brilliantly and broke up attack after attack after attack.
