Transfer Window Deadline Day Round-Up

Last updated : 01 February 2008 By Matthew Jones
Yesterday saw the close of the January transfer window, with clubs having their last chance to sign a player permanently from another club until the season is over.

As ever, the day was busy, with a phenomenal number of players moving clubs, a number that probably surpassed the amount of transfers that have taken place in the previous thirty days of the window.

There were a number of exciting signings around League One, none more so than at Prenton Park where Ian Moore returned to his former club to play under his father, Ronnie. The striker signs for Tranmere on an 18 month deal from Hartlepool and will be looking to continue his fine form for the season.

Moore's signing meant that Tranmere Rovers centre-forward Gareth Taylor left the club, joining Doncaster Rovers until the end of the season on loan. Rovers midfielder Paul Henry also joined Welsh club The New Saints on loan until May.

Another loan signing for Doncaster saw Northern Ireland left-winger Stuart Elliot, who Tranmere had been tracking, sign from Hull City until the end of the season whilst Bristol City front man Kevin Betsy is another loanee, with the striker moving north the Bescott Stadium to play for Walsall.

Sam Collins signed for Hartlepool from Hull for an undisclosed fee, a move made possible by Ian Moore leaving the Monkey Hangers, whilst another highly rated player switching leagues was Aldershot's Jonny Dixon who swapped the non-League club for Brighton and Hove Albion, signing for £56,000.

Another Hull man on the move was Dave Livermore who joined Oldham on loan whilst Millwall signed Dave Martin from Crystal Palace for £50,000.

Ahead of Saturday's clash with Tranmere Rovers, Leeds United were very busy in the transfer window on deadline day too.

Gary McAllister saw Anthony Elding join the club from Stockport County for an undisclosed fee whilst two Leicester City players also joined the club, with Darron Kenton joining for an undisclosed fee and Alan Sheehan signing on loan.

One final transfer made by Leeds was the signing of Bolton defender Lubomir Michalik who signed for the Lily Whites for an undisclosed fee.

Premiership youngster Anthony Grant joined Southend from Chelsea on loan with Steve Hammill leaving Roots Hall to join Scottish club Motherwell for £110,000.

Liverpool youngster Lee Peltier re-joined Yeovil but this time on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee whilst Krystian Pearce joined Port Vale on loan from Birmingham City.

Simeon Jackson joined Gillingham from Rushden, with the striker signing for the Gills for £150,000 and Cleveland Taylor, who had been chased by Tranmere, joined Carlisle for £50,000 from Scunthorpe United.

Out going players from League One saw the likes of Lee Bullock leave Hartlepool for Bradford (free) whilst the highly rated Scott Dann left Walsall for Coventry for an undisclosed fee.

Nathan Elder left Brighton for £35,000 as he joined League Two side Brentford whilst Brighton fans will be somewhat dissapointed after highly rated Dean Hammond left the club, joining Colchester for £250,000.

Former Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon, who had been unsettled at Nottingham Forest, left the City Ground to join League Two side Wycombe Wanderers.
