There will be no love lost this weekend at Prenton Park, as Tranmere take on Premiership opposition in the form of rivals Bolton Wanderers.

For Rovers, it is a return to Prenton Park after five friendlies which have seen them score 15 goals and conceed just two, winning four out of the five games in total.

Bolton on the other hand have played four pre-season friendlies so far, drawing one, losing one and winning two.

The Trotters drew their first match in the Peace Cup 1-1 against Seongnam Ilhwa before beating Club Deportivo and Racing Santander 2-0 and 2-1, all three games being played in South Korea. Their most recent friendly result have saw them defeated 3-0 by Hibs at Easter Road.

In previous meetings when the two sides have met, Rovers have tended to come out on top. The most recent meeting was at the Reebok Stadium back in January 2004.

The match was a F.A. Cup Third Round replay after the original match was drawn 1-1 at Prenton Park. Tranmere however defeated Bolton 2-1 in the replay, with Dadi scoring before Bolton equalised late on. However, just seconds into injury time the impressive Iain Hume netted a stunning 30-yard strike to secure the tie.

Before this, Tranmere had defeated Bolton in the 1999/00 League Cup Semi Finals, 1-0 at the Reebok and 3-0 at Prenton Park as well as preventing Bolton from becoming the first team to reach 100 points in a league season at Prenton Park on the final day of the 1995/96 season thanks to a Lee Jones late goal.

However, it will be the first time that Tranmere have faced Bolton since Sam Alladyce left the Reebok for Newcastle, with Sammy Lee taking charge of the Trotters.

Both managers are set to name strong sides, with Bolton expected to include a number of big international names in their side such as El Hadji-Diouf and the recently signed Christian Wilhelmsson.

The match is a 3pm kick off at Prenton Park this Saturday (28th July), with Bolton expected to use the changing facilities this time around.
