Tranmere Rovers' on-loan defender John Thompson has expressed his will to sign a permanent contract with the Wirral club when his current deal at Nottingham Forest expires this summer.

Thompson, who can play anywhere across the backline or in midfield, revealed that he wants to leave the City Ground and Colin Calderwood as quick as possible after he has had limited first team chances with the former European Champions this season.

Thompson, who has been capped once for his country Ireland, is currently in his second loan spell with the club after originally playing for Rovers for six months over October, November and December.

After being recalled to the City Ground and making six more appearances for Forest, Thompson was brought back to Tranmere on-loan in February and has made five appearances since despite picking up serious knee ligament damage in February against Doncaster Rovers which ruled him out for 2 months.
