Australian defender Shane Sherriff has become the latest player to leave Prenton Park as he joined Shrewsbury Town today on a two-year deal.

According to the club, Sherriff was offered a new deal at Prenton Park, but because he could not be promised a regular place in defence, he opted for a move down to League Two.

Sherriff joined Rovers in 2006 shortly after Ronnie Moore became manager of the club, and he quickly made the left-back spot his own before switching to left-midfield for the second half of the 2007/08 season. In total, over two-years, Sherriff played 95 times for Tranmere, netting nine times.

He joins ex-Nottingham Forest player Grant Holt in moving to Shrewsbury, with the New Meadow side able to splash the cash thanks to Joe Hart making his England debut against Trinadad and Tobago earlier in this month, an appearance which earned Shrewsbury £500,000 as part of the goalkeeper's transfer from Shrewsbury to Manchester City.

Tranmere Rovers Mad would like to thank Shane for the time he spent at Prenton Park and wish him all the best for the future.
