Tranmere Rovers will take on local rivals Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Prenton Park on Saturday July 12th this summer.

The match, which will kick off at 3:00pm, will be a chance for both sides to get some much needed match fitness ahead of the 2008/09 season, as well as an opportunity for Rovers to get some media coverage and a bumper crowd, therefore ensuring some desperately needed money makes its way into the Tranmere Rovers bank account.

The last time the two sides met was in the 2000/01 F.A. Cup, when Rovers hosted Liverpool in the Quarter Final of the competition. However, goals from Steve Yates and Wayne Allison were not enough for John Aldridge's Tranmere side as they went down fighting, losing the fixture 4-2.

Liverpool were originally meant to play Chester City at the Deva Stadium on this date but because of Chester Races, the fixture had to be cancelled, meaning Rafa Benitez's side will make the short journey through the tunnel to Prenton Park instead.

Both sides are expected to put out reasonably strong sides, and many fans will be hoping to see the likes of Stevie J and Ian Goodison in action once more.

Tranmere's annual fixture with Cammell Lairds was originally set for this date, but has now been postponed because of the arrangement of the Liverpool fixture. A re-arranged date is yet to be confirmed.
