Rovers in double transfer action

It has been a the start of what Rovers fans will hope is a busy period in the transfer market today, as they saw one player leave whilst another signed on at Prenton Park.

Firstly, as has been recently reported in the press, Tranmere today completed the sale of winger Kevin Ellison to local rivals Chester City.

Although Chester requested that the actual transfer fee remains undisclosed, Tranmere have confirmed that Ellison, who scored four goals in 36 league and cup appearances for Rovers last season, has been sold for a fee more than what Tranmere paid for him last summer.

Tranmere brought in their second player of the summer too though today, as they signed defender Anthony Kay from Yorkshire club Barnsley.

Kay, who can play at right back, centre back or centre midfield, made nearly 200 appearances for the Championship side and has been there ever since he turned professional.

Kay signs on a two-year contract after leaving Barnsley and Tranmere are reported to have fought off competition from a number of clubs for his signature.
