Rovers given home cup tie

Just a few days ago, Tranmere were knocked out of the League Cup after a dissapointing 2-0 defeat against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park, meaning that just four days in to the new season, they were already out of a trophy which provided them with a chance of getting some much needed money.

Today though, the Johnstone's Paints Trophy draw has been made and Rovers have been pitted against Accrington Stanley of League Two, with the match to be played at Prenton Park in the week commencing September 2nd.

Rovers have previous history in the competition, having won the Football League Trophy, then named the Leyland DAF, and finished runners up in 1990 and 1991.

However, in the past two years Tranmere have been knocked out by League Two opposition at the First and Second round stage against Darlington and Morecambe, whilst they have also been knocked out of the F.A. Cup and League Cup by League Two sides in recent years.
