Released player signs for new club.

Russell Howarth, who Tranmere released this summer has already found a new club and could well come up against Rovers this season.

The former England U-21 keeper has signed for Tranmere League One rivals, Bradford City on a two year deal.

In almst three seasons at Rovers, Howarth never really impressed. He made just 14 appearences after signing under Ray Mathias in 2002. Most of these appearences came this season, during John Achterberg's time on the sidelines after he damaged his Knee Ligaments during the 6-1 defeat to Hull.

Bradford are delighted at the signing of Howarth, explaining that Russ is a great keeper.

I do however find it strange that Rovers release a keeper who obviously does have talent, who then goes and signs for a club who are going to be one of Tranmere's main rivals in League One next season. Surely this shows that Howarth is good enough for Tranmere, as Bradford are if not equal to Tranmere, they are not far behind.

I would wish Russ all the best, but if he is going to do well, he may well stop Tranmere doing well too. Good luck when we're not in the same League Russ!
