Out of the cup early but is this a good omen for Tranmere?

Last night, Tranmere lost 2-1 away to Scunthorpe in the First Round of this seasons Carling Cup. However, could this possibly be a good omen for Tranmere? In this artical, Footymad look at what has happened in other season's where Rovers have had good Cup Runs.

Last season, Tranmere got knocked out of the League Cup and F.A. Cup in the first round, which financially was not club for the club. However, Tranmere went on to finish third in the league, only to lose in the Play-off's. In previous years when Rovers have done well in the Cup, their league form has not been so brilliant.

For example, the season Dave Watson managed the club, Tranmere got to the Fifth round of the F.A. Cup, only to get soundly beaten by Tottenham Hotspurs at White Harte Lane. In the league that season, Rovers finished mid-table.
Two seasons later, Tranmere - now with Brian Little in charge - reached the F.A. Cup Quater finals, yet they lost 2-1 in a replay against Millwall. In this season, Rovers narrowly missed out on the play-offs because of a poor run of form inbetween the two replays.
Of course, there is also the season when Rovers reached the League Cup Final and F.A. Cup Quater Final. That season Rovers only managed a mid-table finish, yet were supposed to be up there challanging in the play-offs.

Now we come to quite possibly the most significant season of all. John Aldridge's last season at the club, when he guided Tranmere to the F.A. Cup Quater final, yet in the same season, when they were tipped for promotion by many, they were relegated down to Division Two (now of course League One).

So, the omens are all good - Rovers are out of the League Cup early, and if the same happens in the F.A. Cup, can Tranmere be tipped for a top two finish this season?
