It has been rumoured that blades striker Luke Beckett is on his way to Prenton
Park. According to a local radio station, reports this morning suggest a fee has been agreed between Tranmere and Sheffield United,
but contract talks are still taking place. Do you think that this would be a good
signing? He would we arriving with vasts of experience in this league and being a proven
goal scorer throughout his career.
Lukes career began when he was an apprentice at the Oakwell with Barnsley but failed to make a
single first team apearence for the Yorkshire club and therefore moved to Chester City in 1998 and scored
an impressive 25 goals in just 74 games for them. After his 2 seasons at Chester he moved to Chesterfeild
where he won promotion with the spireites in his first season scoring 16 goals in his 41 appearences.
Then Luke moved to Stockport County. In his first proper season scored a magnificent 27 goals in 41
games and that helped county stay in Division 2. Last season Luke moved to Sheffield United but has not yet
featured, he was sent out on loan to Huddersfeild Town and Oldham Athletic scoring 19 goals in total for
both sides.
So not a bad career, always scoring in League 1, but he is getting on a bit and maybe the money would be
best spent on a player for the future but we do have Dagnall, Hume and zola!
