Tranmere Rovers have started their summer shake up as they prepare for next season by today releasing four players.

Two players who Ronnie Moore signed shortly after joining the club in midfield John Mullin, now 33, and defender Robbie Stockdale, have both been released after two years at Prenton Park.

Right-back Stockdale, who has won five caps for Scotland, played an impressive 88 games for Tranmere in just two seasons with the club, ending up as the player to have been on the pitch for the most minutes this year for the Wirral club.

John Mullin meanwhile has struggled to break into the Tranmere first team this year due to injuries in the first six months of the season, but he started his career on fire before falling away after Christmas 2006. Mullin ends his Tranmere career having played 56 games and scored five goals from central midfield.

The other two players to be released are products from Tranmere's academy, right-winger Mike Jones and centre-back Michael Johnston.

Niether player has really had a first team chance with Rovers, with Johnston failing to make an appearance for the club, whilst Jones played just thirteen times, scoring once, making his debut on the final day of the 05/06 season against Doncaster Rovers.

Each player has shone at youth and reserve team level for Tranmere, whilst Johnston won two awards whilst on-loan at Bangor City this season, but manager Ronnie Moore clearly felt niether player was worthy of a new contract at Prenton Park.

Elsewhere, it is believed that youngsters Paul Henry, who has made two appearances for the club, and right-back Danny Holmes have both been offered new contracts with the club.
