Former Tranmere Rovers chairman Fred Williams has backed a Tranmere Rovers Supporters Group wishing to take over the club.

Williams, who was chairman for around a year between Frank Corfe and Lorraine Rogers in the late ninties, is willing to hand over the voting rights of 9,800 share to the Tranmere and Wirral Supporters Trust, the supporters group interested in a take over bid.

The 72-year old Williams, who has been a lifelong Tranmere fan has pledged his support to the group, claiming "Some of the trusts' ideas are excellent and I can see the club going forward with them. The club does not look as if it's going anywhere at the moment. It's static."

The retired business man has had two meetings with the supporters trust and has said he will give them his full support. "They have the best intrests of the club at heart" he said, "that is what I like about them."

The shares that Williams does own amounts to around 2% of the total shares in the club, with Lorraine Rogers and president Peter Johnson owning about 90% of the shares between them.
