Rovers complete first summer signing
Tranmere Rovers have made their first summer transfer today as Gareth Edds signed a two-year deal with the Wirral club.

The 27-year old Austrlian joins Rovers from League Two Champions MK Dons, a club for whom Edds has played for four years having joined in 2004.

A versatile player, Edds can play on the right or in the centre of defence or midfield and as he brings experience and an eye for goal to the club, he could be a very good replacement for Robbie Stockdale.

Edds started his career in English League Football at Nottingham Forest where he was a trainee, after being born in Sydney, Australia.

Between 1998 and 2002 Edds made seventeen appearances for the Tricky Trees before joining Swindon for a year and then moving on to Bradford in 2003, making 42 appearances for the two clubs.

His real breakthrough came in 2004 as he joined MK Dons on a free-transfer. He made 147 appearances for the club over a four year stay in League's One and Two, scoring 12 goals in the process.

He is perhaps best known to Tranmere fans as the player who scored against Rovers on the final day of the 2004/05 season, thus ensuring MK Dons would remain in League One for the next season as they just avoided relegation with a 2-1 win.

Joining on a two-year free-transfer from MK Dons, Edds described himself as delighted to have joined a good club like Tranmere whilst Ronnie Moore stressed that Rovers have been on the look out for a box to box midfielder, with Edds fitting into this roll perfectly.
