Tranmere Rovers youngster Danny Holmes has joined local non-League side Southport on an initial one month loan period.

Holmes, who is yet to make a competative first team appearance yet but impressed in pre-season, has been a regular in the reserves over the last two years, playing at both right-back and centre-back. He is a strong tackler and decent passer of the ball, whilst he has scored some spectacular goals for the Rovers second string this season.

The Youngster has been on the fringes of the first team this season so far as he has travelled to nearly every away game but due to Rovers' solid defensive displays, he is yet to even make the substitutes bench.

Two other Rovers youngsters, goalkeeper Shane McWeeney and second year scholar Ryan Mitchell, a defender, who have also been regulars for the reserve team this season, have also signed for Leigh RMI and Warrington Town as Work Experience.
