Akins too hot for Pools

Lucas Akins` double earned Tranmere a third away win of the season as they leapfrogged Hartlepool courtesy of a 2-0 win at Victoria Park.

The attacker inflicted a third successive home loss on Pools and secured a third victory on the trot for Les Parry's side.

Less than 60 seconds had elapsed when home midfielder Nathan Luscombe let fly from 20 yards, only for goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams to save superbly to tip the ball over.

But after only 22 seconds into the second period, Rovers took the lead. A swift move down the right saw Dave Buchanan feed Adam McGurk, whose shot was parried by Scott Flinders into the path of Akins to tap home.

Robbie Weir prodded over from close range, but it was soon 2-0 in the 66th minute. A long throw was turned in by Akins at the near post.

Pools` best chance of getting one back came when, amid a goalmouth scramble, Evan Horwood`s prod at goal was knocked off the line by captain John Welsh.
