Tranmere vs. Huddersfield match preview

Last updated : 31 January 2006 By Matthew Jones
Tranmere play their first Friday night match of the year, funnily enough, this Friday, 3rd February, as Prenton Park welcomes high flying Huddersfield Town.

Rovers have probably edged the meetings between the sides on the previous three occasions, with two wins to Huddersfield's one out of the previous three games.

Earlier this season, Tranmere traveled to The Galpharm Stadium hoping for a result but were unlucky to come away with a 1-0 defeat after Danny Schofield scored the only goal of the game with three minutes to go. John Achterberg however did save an Abbot penalty after just 28 minutes.

On the two occasions the sides met last season, Rovers won comfortably. Both games were intrestingly enough on Tuesday nights, as was the meeting this season.

Rovers won 3-1 at the Galpharm with Theo Whitmore scoring two goals and Chris Dagnall the other whilst at Prenton Park Rovers won comfortably, running out 3-0 winners thanks to Dadi, Hume and Roberts goals.

Huddersfield Last 6 Away Games: LDDLDL

On current form, Tranmere should win this. With Huddersfield without an away win in the League since Saturday 12th November when they beat Yeovil whilst Tranmere's last home defeat was on December 17th against Brenford when the Bee's ran away winners 4-1.

However, Huddersfield's three defeats have come to tought opposition. One was to Chelsea in the F.A. Cup whilst another was to high flying Brentford who's away form is the best in League One. The third one was to Bristol City who are now begining to pick up with new boss Gary Johnson.

Tranmere have meanwhile beat the likes of Yeovil and Rotherham at home, who's away form has hardly set this league alight and when they have come up against tougher opposition of late in Southend and Bournemouth, they have failed to even score, drawing 0-0 on both occasions.

Jones' Match Prediction: Can't see Tranmere getting much out of this to be honest. Huddersfield, whilst they haven't come up with wins in their last six have played against tough opposition whilst Rovers will probably just play 5-3-2 and hope for a 0-0, like the last four games. Tranmere 0-2 Huddersfield
