This Saturday, Tranmere Rovers return to Prenton Park after two consecutive away matches as they take on Yeovil Town in Coca-Cola League One when they could have been playing Cardiff in the F.A. Cup Fourth Round.

Rovers will be looking to build on last weekends 1-0 win away at Millwall, whilst an improvement over their 2-0 defeat against Bristol Rovers last time out at Prenton Park is crucial.

Yeovil Town team profile:

Formed: 1895

Ground: Huish Park

Manager: Russell Slade

Nickname: The Glovers

Season Finish 2006/07: 5th (Coca-Cola League One)

Previous meetings:

Last time Tranmere and Yeovil met, Rovers snatched a point with a late equaliser as they came away from Huish Park with a 1-1 draw.

The home team took the lead on 58-minutes through former Premiership striker Marcus Stewart. A poor Ian Goodison header went straight to the former Charlton player, who then ran across the edge of the Rovers penalty area, beating Paul McLaren before firing low past Coyne and into the bottom corner from the edge of the D.

Yeovil then pressed forward and could have had a second before Tranmere came more and more into the game over the last twenty minutes.

Injury time came, with the Fourth Official signalling four minutes of injury time to be played, and Tranmere still hadn't scored.

In the sixth minute of additional time, Rovers won a free-kick 25-yards from goal after a foul on Chris Greenacre. Steve Davies took up to take the set-piece and hit the ball perfectly into the bottom corner of the goal, snatching a dramatic point for Rovers as their fans went wild on the Huish Park away terracing.

Vital Stats:

In five previous meetings, Tranmere have never lost to Yeovil, with Rovers picking up three wins and two draws

Yeovil have lead in three of the five meetings between the two teams but have not been able to hold on and claim the three points

Including this game, all bar one of Tranmere's six meetings with Yeovil have come in the second half of the month

Rovers have put more than double the amount of goals past the Yeovil defence than Yeovil have put past theirs

On This Day

2007: Tranmere Rovers put in a dismal display and lose 2-0 against Gillingham live on Sky Television at the Priestfield Stadium

2000: Rovers secure their place in the League Cup final with a superb 3-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers in the second leg of their semi-final at Prenton Park

1994: Only the third ever league meeting between Tranmere and Nottingham Forest ends 1-1 at the City Ground in Division One

From ten previous games on January 26th, Tranmere have picked up two wins, two draws and six defeats. In those ten games, they have scored fourteen goals and conceded seventeen. Their last five league games on the date have been away from home.

The Form Book:

Tranmere last 6 home games: LDWWWL

Yeovil last 6 away games: DLDWLL

Yeovil Town are currently enduring a poor run of form away from Huish Park, having picked up just one win in their last ten games on the road.

In the first match of their six match sequence, Yeovil were dumped out of the Football League trophy after a 1-0 defeat at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea City before following this up with a 2-1 league defeat at the New Den against Millwall, despite leading through a 49th minute strike from Walker.

Yeovil then picked up their only win in their six match sequence away to Doncaster Rovers, as Way and Stewart scored in a 2-1 win for the Glovers before the Yeovil fans had to endure a 0-0 draw away to Leyton Orient on the Saturday before Christmas.

Town then lost 1-0 away to Luton on New Years Day before drawing 1-1 with Southend United at Roots Hall in their last away match, with Owusu getting the Yeovil goal in the 71st minute.

Other notable results for Yeovil on the road this season include wins over Northampton Town (2-1), Swindon Town (1-0) and Brighton and Hove Albion (2-1), whilst the Glovers squeezed past Hereford in the Football League Trophy with a 4-2 penalty shoot out win against the Bulls after the game had ended goalless.

From 13 away games this season, Yeovil have picked up 16 points thanks to four wins, four draws and five defeats. They have only kept two clean sheets in their last nineteen games in all competitions.

Important home results for Russell Slade's side include victories over Carlisle United (2-1), Port Vale (1-0), Hartlepool (3-1) and Brighton and Hove Albion (2-1).

Tranmere's recent revival on home soil came to an end last time out as they lost 2-0 against Bristol Rovers on the Wirral. Before then however, Tranmere had picked up three consecutive league wins at Prenton Park.

In the first match of their six game sequence, Rovers lost 1-0 against Swansea City at Prenton Park thanks to a late own goal from midfielder Steven Jennings.

Rovers then however picked up three consecutive home wins, starting with a decent 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in horrible conditions on the Wirral.

This was followed by a 2-0 success over Carlisle United, with Paul McLaren and Antony Kay getting the goals for Tranmere, before a solitary Calvin Zola goal earned Rovers a 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town.

The run came to an end against Hereford United in the F.A. Cup third round however as Rovers were forced to twice come from behind to draw 2-2 with the League Two side before they lost 2-0 against Bristol Rovers after putting in a dismal display at Prenton Park last time out in League One.

Other notable home results for Tranmere include wins over Luton Town (2-1), Huddersfield (3-0) and Brighton and Hove Albion (2-0).

From thirteen home league games, Tranmere have picked up 21 points thanks to six wins, three draws and four defeats.

Impressive away results for Tranmere include wins over Carlisle United (1-0), Southend United (2-1) and Millwall (1-0) in the league as well as a 3-0 success at Bradford in the F.A. Cup second round.

Double Hit:

As of yet, no player has represented both Tranmere Rovers and Yeovil Town

One To Watch:
Terry Skiverton

Yeovil club captain Terry Skiverton was voted as the clubs best ever players by Glover's fans in 2007, with the defender now in his ninth season with the club.

Skiverton started his career with Chelsea but after failing to make an appearance for the club, he joined Wycombe on loan in February 1995.

After a successful month on loan with the Chair boys, Skiverton joined the club on a permanent basis and stayed with the club for two years and eventually made 20 appearances, scoring two goals.

However, Wycombe released the player in 1997 and he joined non-league side Welling, again on a free-transfer. Still though, the London born defender couldn't hold down a regular first team place and after making just a handful of appearances for the team, he joined Yeovil for free in 1999.

Since joining Yeovil, Skiverton has never looked back, as he has played for the club in three different divisions, making 320 appearances and scoring 34 goals in the process.

The 32 year old, who wears the number four shirt for Russell Slade's team, is not famed for having blistering pace, but he is a solid centre-back who can also play in centre-midfield when required.

A good tackler and header of the ball, Skiverton stands at six foot tall and has scored two goals and played 16 games for Yeovil this season. On Boxing Day, Skiverton got sent off in Yeovil's 1-0 defeat to Swindon, but he has served his three match ban and is now back in the first team.

Whilst as a part-time player at both Welling and Yeovil, Skiverton appeared on Sky television program Dream Team. However, Yeovil became a full-time club when they entered the football league in the early 2000's and he was forced to give up this role.

Around League One:

There are only eight League One games this weekend, but, as ever, there are some exciting games in prospect, with Tranmere's match against Yeovil at Prenton Park being one of them.

The two teams come in to the game level on 37 points in the league table, with only Tranmere's inferior goal difference separating the two teams. Both teams have played 27 games and are also level with Southend United who are eighth in the League One table and, like Tranmere, have a goal difference of +1. All three sides currently lie six points outside the play-offs and will battle it out for eighth place in the League One table this weekend. With Southend not playing this weekend due to the F.A. Cup, they will slip to at least ninth in the table by 5pm on Saturday.

On Friday night there are three games in League One, with three promotion contenders, Swansea City, Carlisle United and Leyton Orient, all playing away from home.

League leaders Swansea have a very tough game against Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium ahead of them, with Doncaster able to move in to the top two should they win the game. Swansea however can extend their lead at the top of League One to eleven points, should they win and Carlisle, on 45 points and third in the League One table, lose away to 21st placed Cheltenham Town.

The other game on Friday night in League One sees Leyton Orient travel to Northampton. Despite Orient lying in sixth place in League One, they too can move into the top two should they win and results go their way.

Back to the Saturday games, and cash-strapped Luton Town take on out of form Leeds United at Kenilworth Road with Luton now four points from safety in the League One relegation zone whilst Gillingham, now 16th, travel to the Bescott Stadium to take on seventh placed Walsall on Saturday.

Team News:

Again, Tranmere Rovers will be without wingers Steve Davies and Chris Shuker who are both our for the season with knee-ligament injuries. Striker Chris Greenacre could miss out against with a troublesome thigh strain which has kept him out of Tranmere's last two games whilst Jennison Myrie-Williams plays his last game before returning to Bristol City, unless Tranmere manage to extend the players loan deal at the club.

Jones' Prediction:
Tranmere Rovers 2-0 Yeovil Town

Tranmere tend to do well against Yeovil, or have done in the limited amount of meetings between the two sides, and hopefully after Saturday's win at Millwall they can push on and pick up another win.

Last Saturday showed that Tranmere do not need lots of chances to score whilst it also shows they have the grit and determination to hold strong and come through a game against tough opposition away from home when they have been on the back-foot.

Myrie-Williams has been on good form recently and it can surely only be a matter of time before he scores or gets an assist whilst Calvin Zola too has looked strong up front, bar his finishing, in the last couple of games.

With Ian Goodison back in the defence last week, Tranmere looked much strong and much more confident, whilst Danny Coyne was back to form as well. If their performance is repeated on Saturday, Rovers should at least be keeping a clean sheet.
