Leicester C v Tranmere R

Coca-Cola League One at Walkers Stadium

Two weeks of the new season gone, two away trips down already and two defeats on the road for Rovers is not the statistic that Rovers' fans would have hoped for ahead of this difficult trip to the Walkers Stadium but that is the reality of the current situation Rovers find themselves in prior to this game.

A win against previously unbeaten Hartlepool United at home last Saturday got Rovers off the mark in the league but a Carling Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby last midweek was an early season blow.

The last time these two sides met there was considerably more at stake at the old Wembley Stadium in the 2000 League Cup Final which of course the Foxes eventually won 2-1 after being pushed all the way by Rovers for whom David Kelly scored that most memorable of goals.

Since that memorable day, both sides have fallen, Leicester more dramatically so out of the two, dropping two divisions in the eight years since that final whilst Rovers were relegated from what is now the Championship in the season immediately following the Wembley trip.

The result is the first League meeting between the sides for just over twelve years. In the last meeting at Prenton Park in April 1996, the sides drew 1-1 with Rovers having earlier won the first meetingof the season at Leicester's old Filbert Street Stadium thanks to a goal from none other than Ian Moore who is now of course back at Rovers.

Rovers' goalkeeper Danny Coyne is a former Leicester player and will be looking to exact misery on his former Club in their first ever season in the third tier of English football.

Rovers are expected to take at least 500 fans if not more to this game so if you are one of those going to the game, make sure you get behind the lads and that they came send us home with our first three points from our travels this season.

Tranmere Team News

After injury concerns in the opening couple of matches, Ronnie Moore has just one concern for this game which is his son Ian Moore who has a viral infection meaning that Chris Greenacre could return to the starting line-up if Rovers stick with a 4-3-3 formation.
