Ronnie Moore's Tranmere Rovers kept up their good pre-season form with a 3-1 win away to none-league Marine this Saturday, thanks to goals from Mike Jones, Chris Greenacre and Calvin Zola.

Rovers once again started with trialist Christian D'Bale on the left-wing and he was joined in the starting XI by John Achterberg, Kay, Goodison, Holmes, Sherriff, Jones, Ahmed, McLaren, Greenacre and Curran.

After D'Bale sent a shot narrowly wide on three minutes, Rovers got the opener with just six minutes on the clock. After skipping past a couple of challanges, Mike Jones played a quick one-two with Greenacre before netting past the Marine keeper from the edge of the area.

After chances for either side, Rovers doubled their lead on 39 minutes through Chris Greenacre, the striker rounding the 'keeper and firing into the net after picking up a poor backpass.

Ronnie Moore once again made a number of half time substitutions as he bids to get his squad fitr for the new season. The Rovers XI for the second half was Coyne, Kay, Johnston, Sherriff, Tremarco, Shuker, Jennings, Henry, Davies, Taylor, Zola.

Steve Davies had Rovers first chance of the second half, as he fired straight at the Marine 'keeper just after the hour before Calvin Zola netted his first of pre-season to put Rovers 3-0 up, with Shuker providing a cross for the tall striker to head into the net.

Rovers joy however was short lived, as Marine soon pulled the scoreline back to 3-1, as Paul Woolcott first beat Tremarco and then Coyne before netting, the first goal Rovers have conceeded this pre-season.

Back on the Wirral, a Tranmere Rovers youth XI traveled to West Kirby where they were to play out a 0-0 draw.

In a tight game with some angry moments, both sides had chances where they could have snatched the win. Shane McWeeney made a number of fine saves in the Tranmere goal before he was replaced after around a hour.

Rovers themselves could also have snatched the win. Terry Gornell saw one shot brush the post in the second half after his touched had let him down at the other end in the first half whilst Aaron Cresswell also came close late on with a free-kick which was well saved by the West Kirby goalkeeper.
