Kristian O’Brien fired Avenue into the lead with only three minutes gone and Bradford held onto their slender advantage until the dying moments when an Andy Hayward double made the game safe.

It’s as you were in the fight for the second promotion spot as both Vauxhall and Ashton were somewhat surprisingly held to draws. Vauxhall twice took the lead against mid-table Lincoln but were unable to hang on for three points.

Peter Cuminsky fired Motors into the lead after just seven minutes only for Lincoln to level through Gary Walter. Five minutes after half-time a goal from defender Matt Haddrell put Vauxhall ahead once more but to the frustration of the home fans Lincoln were allowed back into the game and Ben Brown netted an equalising goal thirteen minutes from time.

Ashton United’s match against in form neighbours Trafford ended scoreless with neither side able to break the deadlock. Fourth placed Stocksbridge saw their faint promotion hopes disappear following their 2-1 defeat at Workington.

Stocksbridge began the game brightly and took a deserved lead on the half hour mark when Fiddler fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

Workington hit back to equalise on the stoke of half-time when Gary Milne (pictured)latched onto a Barry Irving knock down to lash the ball home from eighteen yards. Workington played much better in the second half and it was they who secured the winner when a Milne through ball was guided into the Stocksbridge net by substitute Graham Goulding.

At the foot of the table Congleton earned an excellent point following their goalless draw at Witton but it looks like a case of too little, too late as they remain twelve points from safety with only five games to play.

Gretna, too, picked up a valuable point courtesy of a scoreless draw at Ossett. Eastwood were another side to earn a point from a scoreless stalemate but that point allowed them to close the gap on Guiseley who lost 2-0 at Matlock.

Elsewhere a fine 3-0 win at Harrogate seems to have secured Kendal’s place in Division One for another season. Similarly, Winsford who enjoyed a convincing three-goal triumph over North Ferriby.
