Whilst the Vauxhall players had their feet up following the postponement of their game at Harrogate, Ashton were claiming a crucial three point haul from their trip to Matlock courtesy of Jamie Illingworth’s 47th minute goal.

Stocksbridge remain on the fringe of the promotion battle after extending their unbeaten run to eleven games at the expense of Winsford. Stocksbridge took the lead on the half hour mark thanks to a Langley own goal. The battling Winsford side fought back from this setback to equalise through Worthington on the stroke of half time. Stocksbridge regained the lead after 62 minutes when Gary Hurlstone (pictured) fired home at the near post.

Ossett Town are fifth after overcoming Farsley Celtic by 2-0. Smithard and Boardman netted their goals. Two teams on the fringes of the promotion battle met at Witton and the scoreless stalemate that ensued was of little use to the home side or the visitors Chorley.

Elsewhere Trafford secured a comfortable 3-1 win away to North Ferriby, Farly’s late goal for the home side was a consolation since Trafford were already three goals to the good thanks to goals from Murray (2) and Emmett.

Workington and Lincoln Utd shared four goals in Cumbria. Lincoln began like a house on fire and by the 10th minute were two goals to the good after Drinkell and Hargreaves had netted. Gary Milne began the Workington fightback with a goal in the 33rd minute and then capped a fine display when he headed powerfully home, to equalise, deep into injury time.

At the foot of the table Congleton Town were thrashed by fellow strugglers Gretna. Gretna put the Bears to the sword with goals from Irving, Young, Mawson, and Dobie (2). Congleton’s sole reply came from Thomley. Struggling Kendal Town succumbed to a pair of Eastwood Town goals scored by Todd and Smith and remain third bottom.
