The much improved Bury side struck back to level through Colin Cramb, on loan from Crewe, and then snatched all three points when John Newby, on loan from Liverpool, netted a last minute winner.

Rotherham took full advantage of Millwall’s slip up, defeating Bournemouth by three goals to one. Alan Lee and a Mark Robins double gave the home side a comfortable advantage before James Hayter scored a late consolation goal for the Cherries.

Walsall reclaimed third position following a rare away success. Two goals to the good at Bristol city by the seventeenth minute, courtesy of efforts from Leitao (pictured) and Simpson, they weathered a Bristol City fightback after Tony Thorpe’s reply for the home side to restore their two goal advantage when Cary put through his own goal.

Reading’s promotion bandwagon looked like it was about to de-rail at Wycombe after the home side had taken a first half lead through Lee. The Royals managed to save a vital point , however, when Igoe netted an equaliser three minutes from time. Wigan must have thought they had three points in the bag after a Bradshaw penalty had given them the lead in a dour tussle against Notts County. County had other ideas, though, and hit back to snatch a last gasp leveller through Fenton.

At the foot of the table Oxford netted three goals at Wrexham and still finished up on the losing side. A second minute Phil Gray penalty for Oxford was matched by Lee Trundle’s 13th minute effort for the home side. A Powell goal for the away side on the stroke of half time was countered by four Wrexham goals in the final twenty minutes. New signing Lee Trundle went on to complete a hat-trick, giving him five goals in three appearances for the Robins, whilst Darren Ferguson netted a brace in the dying minutes. Oxford’s third goal was claimed by Matt Murphy.

Luton’s revival continued with a solitary Taylor goal four minutes from time proving enough to see off Cambridge. Bristol Rovers remain in the relegation zone following their defeat by the odd goal in three at Northampton. Savage and Hurst scored for the Cobblers with Rovers’ reply coming from Ellington.

Elsewhere Swindon enjoyed a handsome three goal winning margin over Oldham thanks to goals from Kelly(og), McAreavey and Grazioli.
