Division Two Review - 17th Feb

Wigan disappointed in front of over 7,000 home fans as they could only muster a goalless draw with relegation-threatened Bristol Rovers, while Walsall had to come from two goals down at half-time to seal a draw with Bournemouth at Dean Court.

Stoke also claimed a point in their Potteries derby with Port Vale, with Dave Brammer hitting a late equaliser for Vale after James O’Connor’s strike had looked likely to give the home side the points.

Ten-man Reading moved back into the play-off zone even though they could only draw one apiece at home to Peterborough. Jamie Cureton’s first-half strike was cancelled out early in the second-half by Jason Lee, shortly before Adrian Viveash was sent off for the Royals. Notts. County returned to winning ways, and revived their play-off hopes, as they comfortably beat Northampton Town 2-0 at Meadow Lane.

The game of the day goals-wise came at Kenilworth Road, where Luton claimed their third win on the bounce by disposing of fellow-strugglers Swansea by five goals to three. A Lee Mansell double had helped the Hatters to a 3-1 lead early in the second-half, but when Giovanni Savarese hit his third to make it 4-3 there was all to play for, but Liam George made the game safe for the home side with eight minutes remaining.

Wrexham pulled themselves clear of the relegation mire with a narrow 1-0 success at home to Colchester – their first victory of the year. Paul McGregor sealed the points for Brian Flynn’s men with a 36th minute strike in front of another disappointing crowd of less than 2,500. Swindon also did themselves a favour, winning by the same scoreline at Cambridge United. On-loan Michael Reddy hit the all-important goal with just over a quarter-of-an-hour left, his fourth goal for the club in six outings.
