Paul Moody (pictured) and Livermore scored the Lions’ goals and they now have an eight-point lead over second placed Walsall.

The aforementioned Walsall slipped to a surprise home defeat at the hands of Wrexham. All looked to be going swimmingly for the home side when two goals from Bennett gave them a handy half time lead. A stirring second half fight back by Wrexham with goals from new signing Lee Trundle and Kevin Russell brought the scores level before Craig Faulconbridge silenced the home support with a last minute winner.

The promotion clash between Rotherham and Stoke City at Millmoor was settled in favour of the Millers by two goals from top scorer Mark Robins despite Peter Thorne giving Stoke the lead. Fourth placed Wigan failed to pick up any points at Sixfields where Jamie Forester ended a personal goal drought when he netted the only goal of the game.

Reading cemented their position in the play-of places with a victory at struggling Swansea courtesy of Jamie Curetons’ strike, which proved to be the only goal of the game. Bristol City lost ground on the leaders after their four goal thrashing at the hands of Colchester. Gregory, Keith, Stockwell and Conlon scored the goals to secure a timely victory for the home side.

Brentford put a dent in Notts County’s play off hopes when they ran up a three-goal lead by the 66th minute thanks to goals from Evans, Owesu and Partridge. Allsopp’s lone 82-minute reply was scant consolation for the Magpies.

In the mid table clash between Peterborough and Wycombe five goals had been scored by half time. Wycombe charged in a two-goal lead via Lee and Ryan only for the Posh to hit back hard with strikes of their own courtesy of Mackenzie (2) and Jason Lee. The second forty-five minutes was something of an anti-climax with no further addition to the score. Oldham triumphed in the game at Boundary Park despite the fact that James Hayter put Bournemouth into the lead. A John Sheridan penalty and a late effort from substitute Mathew Tipton were enough to give the home side all three points.

Scenes of great jubilation greeted Bristol Rovers first home victory in the league this season. Astafjeus and Ellington were on the mark for the Pirates. Humphrey’s netted the sole reply for a Cambridge side who are sliding into the relegation dogfight.

Joe Kinnear continues to weave his magic at Luton as the Hatters notched yet another win, this time at the expense of Swindon. Luton are now only two points behind the Wiltshire team. The Hatters hit back to collect the points after falling behind to a Gary Alexander goal thanks to strikes from Rowland, Boyce and Mansell. Lowly Port Vale are level on points with Swindon after drawing 1 each with Bury. Vale’s Bridge-Wilkinson fired them into the lead four minutes before the break but new signing Colin Cramb snatched a leveller for the improving Shakers around the hour mark.
